I really wonder what it means to make much of Jesus. It's scary and yet takes your breath away at times. To just think of all that God has done. Often I think making much of Jesus is to well do His work. To tell as many people as I can, which is important. But I think sometimes it is just to be lost in wonder and awe at His love and mercy. To just lose yourself in His awesomeness and power. It's scary because God is so overwhelming. If we knew even but a sliver of His love and glory we'd just cry to be destroyed I think. Because it's so infinite and mindblowing. I actually think it'd be absolutely terrifying and yet soul-imploding to truly be swept up by God's presence. But may we all be like Moses who knowing that did not keep away from the mountain of God but asked in boldness to see God's glory and goodness (in deep, deep humility of course). And we are under a new covenant. We have come to Mt Zion! 18You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, 20because they could not bear what was commanded: "If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned."[c] 21The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, "I am trembling with fear."[d] 22But you have come to Mount Zion, to the heavenly Jerusalem, the city of the living God. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, 24to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel. How could I stand here |
